Jana & Markus’ Story Packed Düsseldorf Destination Wedding Photos

“Flip Jana, the pics are sooooooo stunning. Oh my word, they really capture all the fun we had!”

I met Jana at Karly and Matt’s awesome London wedding a few years back where she was one of Kary’s bridesmaids. After sharing a number of laughs on the days, I was delighted when she got in contact asking me to photograph her and Marcus’ wedding. I was even more excited when I learnt it would be taking place in Düsseldorf – my first German destination wedding yay!

The wedding was pushed back a year after they became pregnant with Leo. Not only was this extremely exciting for Jana and Marcus, but it also meant that Leo was going to be able to share their wedding day with them!

The day was so much fun and filled with so many stories from getting ready with the babies (Karly, now a bridesmaid for Jana, had her and Matt’s baby there too) to the epic party that went on to the early hours of the morning.

What was the favourite part of your Wedding Day?

Impossible to say! The whole day was magic and much better than we had ever imagined possible. The best thing about getting married, besides saying YES to the love of your life, is having all of your favourite people with you to celebrate. We enjoyed every single second of that day and did not want it to end.

Why did you choose Düsseldorf for your wedding?

We love Düsseldorf, our city. So we chose a beautiful church in the old town, right next to the Rhine river. But for the reception and dinner / party we wanted something more rural with great outdoor space and the perfect party room. Having the bar right next to the dance floor was one of Markus’ main criteria when we started looking at venues. We also wanted great food, wine, cocktails and a relaxed atmosphere and we got all of that at liebevoll! in der Auermühle.

What inspired your wedding’s styling and details?

Our superb wedding planner helped us with that. We wanted summery and fun, yet classic! We loved the flowers, the lights, the cake, our outfits… All the things we chose we loved! And seeing the pictures it was definitely worth all of the planning and thinking, During the day we did not have the time to even recognise all of them, it passed way too quickly.

Did you have any entertainment for the party?

Our DJ was one of the best choices we made for our wedding. From our first dance until we decided to end the party because our feet were burning the dance floor was full. Our guests did not only talk about our beautiful wedding but also about a legendary party!

What was it like working with your wedding photographer Matt?

Matt is the best – without a doubt! Matt had been the photographer at one of Jana’s bridesmaids’ wedding and the photos and Matt’s relaxed approach made us book him for ours. Our engagement shoot in London already showed that that was an excellent decision. Matt blended in with our guests really well and when we received the photos it turns out that we was always in the right place at the right time. He captured sooo many of the little moments, facial expressions and he captured the atmosphere of the day. Watching the highlights slideshow really takes us back to the day. Or as one of Jana’s bridesmaid wrote: “Flip Jana, the pics are sooooooo stunning. Oh my word, they really capture all the fun we had!” Matt is definitely worth every single penny!

If you could impart any words of wisdom to a couple planning their wedding day, what would they be?

1) Book Matt!
2) Do not save money on the DJ (or the photographer and wedding planner)
3) Make it your own wedding. You’ll never please everyone anyway.
4) Spend time as a couple on the wedding day. It passes sooo quickly, there are so many people you want to talk to, but make sure you get some couple moments in-between.
5) Find a reliable car for the bride – ours broke down in front of the church and we were 30 minutes late – oh well, it’s a great story
