Wedding Photographer Bringing an Unobtrusive Approach to Micro Weddings & Intimate Celebrations in London

Hi, I’m Matt, a London-based wedding photographer with a wealth of experience with smaller and more intimate micro weddings.

I’ve photographed weddings of all shapes and sizes over the years, and some of the most powerful moments I’ve witnessed have happened during intimate celebrations. Fewer guests, less noise, and more space to be in the moment. Some weddings were so small that I was invited to be the official witness, which was a huge honour.

That’s why I offer a micro wedding photography package. It’s designed for couples who want their celebrations documented with my honest and unobtrusive approach, without committing to full-day coverage.

Whether you’re planning a relaxed city ceremony, a registry office wedding, or a low-key celebration followed by drinks, there will always be impactful moments to capture when you’re with your favourite people.

Why London is Great for Micro Weddings

London is particularly well suited to micro weddings because so much is close together. Registry offices, photo locations, and places to eat or celebrate are often within walking distance, which helps the day feel relaxed rather than rushed. Keeping things small makes it easier to enjoy the experience without worrying about logistics.

The city also offers a huge variety of backdrops in a compact area. Historic buildings, quiet streets, parks and riverside walks all work well for portraits, often just minutes from your ceremony. Many couples choose nearby locations, which keeps the flow of the day simple and natural.

Micro weddings suit London’s registry offices especially well. Guest numbers are usually limited, ceremonies are efficient, and the surroundings are ideal for relaxed portraits afterwards. Combined with a smaller guest list and a flexible schedule, it creates a wedding day that feels intimate and genuinely enjoyable.

Micro Wedding FAQs

What is a micro wedding?

A micro wedding is a small, intimate wedding celebration, usually with around 5–30 guests. In London, micro weddings often take place at registry offices, followed by portraits nearby and a relaxed meal or drinks.

Do you have any tips when planning a micro wedding in London?

Keep things simple and give yourselves more time than you think you’ll need. London micro weddings work best when the day isn’t rushed. Choosing locations close together makes everything feel more relaxed, and it leaves space to actually enjoy the day rather than watching the clock. Depending on your priorities, you could start with your favourite bar/pub/restaurant and look for registry offices/ venues close by, or the other way around.

What is your photography approach for micro weddings?

My style is natural and unobtrusive, focusing on real moments as they happen rather than staged setups. For micro weddings, this works particularly well, allowing you to stay present with your guests while still having beautiful, honest photographs of your day.

How long have you been a wedding photographer?

I’ve been photographing weddings for over a decade (I went full-time in 2014). During that time, I’ve photographed everything from large, traditional weddings to very small, intimate days, and that experience helps me adapt to whatever your plans look like, especially the relaxed, flexible nature of micro weddings.

What are your favourite London spots for wedding photos?

Some of the best micro wedding photo locations are often just a short walk from your ceremony venue. Quiet streets, nearby parks, riverside paths and architectural details all work beautifully for relaxed portraits. I’ll always suggest locations that fit your schedule and help you make a plan that maximises time celebrating with your guests.

How many hours of photography do we need for a micro wedding?

Most couples book between two and four hours of photography for their micro wedding.
Two hours is usually perfect for the ceremony, confetti, family groups and portraits, while three to four hours allows time for relaxed moments with guests, details, and coverage of drinks or part of your meal.

Do you photograph micro weddings outside of London?

Yes; while I’m based in London and photograph many micro weddings here, I’m also happy to travel for small and intimate weddings elsewhere in the UK. If you’re planning a micro wedding outside London, just get in touch with the details and I can let you know availability and travel options.
