A London St James Park and Westminster Engagement Shoot with Katie and Conor

Katie first reached out to me back in January about having a St James Park and Westminster Engagement shoot. She’d been recommend to me by a lovely couple (Allison and Max) who’s engagement photos I’d taken the year before.

Sadly come late March (when our shoot was planned for) and the whole world had been turned upside down with the Corona Virus Pandemic. They were super patient in waiting until a time we both felt comfortable doing the shoot and in August we made it happen. It felt well worth the wait.

While they’d both shared concerns about being uncomfortable in front of the camera (similar to the majority of my couples), on the day they soon relaxed into it and were absolutely rock stars by the end of our shoot. As hopefully the photos will illustrate.

I will now hand the mic over to Katie and Conor for more on their experience.

Why did you choose to do a London Engagement shoot?

Conor and I moved to London two years ago and got engaged in Italy 6 months into our time abroad. We thought an engagement shoot in London would be the perfect way to capture this special time in our lives.

What location did you pick for your Engagement shoot and why?

We choose Tower Bridge, Westminster and St. James Park. We wanted backdrops that would capture our time in London and how special this experience has been. We spend a lot of our time in the London parks, so thought St. James was the best venue with the beautiful greenery, the London Eye and Buckingham Palace all close by.

Do you have any advice or recommendations for other couples planning to do an Engagement shoot?

Have fun with it and definitely do it! Laugh at yourselves while taking the photos :) We absolutely love our photos and are so glad we dismissed any hesitation towards having a shoot!

What was your experience like working with Matt?

Matt was great and so much fun to work with! He was very knowledgeable about perfect shooting locations, how to act while in front of the camera (my fiancé and I are both camera shy) and the lighting. He makes you laugh and we had such a pleasant evening. Our photos are amazing!!! Our families absolutely love them as well and highlighted how happy we look :) so thanks to Matt for capturing these moments!

Do you have a favourite photo and why?

Ugh, no!!! I can’t choose a favourite because I like so many! I do love the photos in front of Big Ben and Parliament with the sun setting. We thought the light captured there was incredible. We also have a few favourites in St. James Park, they look so natural and candid.

St James Park Engagement Shoot Photos

One of the many great things about London is its parks. Possibly my favourite of these is St James Park. The reason? Within a relatively small area you have so much to explore and enjoy. From the lake, fountain and exotic birds to the range of trees and flowers. You can also enjoy views of the London Eye from the park and Buckingham Palace along The Mall.

Westminster Engagement Shoot Photos

At the heart of power in the UK you have a load of iconic backdrops for engagement photos. From the Houses of Parliament, House of Lords and Big Ben to Westminster Bridge and the London Eye. Sadly Big Ben is still being renovated so it is hidden under scaffolding. The renovation started in 2017 and they aren’t expected to finish until 2021 (can’t believe it’s taking so long). Still it’s a sign of the times.

Covid 19 London Engagement Photos

As we’d had to reschedule Katie & Conor’s engagement shoot several times due to the pandemic, we felt like we needed to take a few photos to represent this unique time in our world’s history.
