A Nature-Inspired London Proposal in Kyoto Garden
Robin and Eugenie were visiting London from Belgium. Only a few days earlier, they had been celebrating a close friend’s wedding, where Eugenie had caught the bouquet – great timing!
When Robin reached out to me about photographing his London proposal, we jumped on a video call to plan out the whole thing (location, timing, and how to make the moment feel quiet and personal). He wanted something relaxed and natural, and Kyoto Garden turned out to be the perfect fit. A garden that Secret London recntly described as A Tranquil Oasis In A Bustling City.

5 Reasons to Propose in Kyoto Garden
1. It’s tucked away. Most people don’t expect to find a Japanese garden in central London, which makes it feel a bit special.
2. Perfect in the morning. If you go early, it’s calm and often empty. Ideal for an intimate moment.
3. It’s great for nature lovers. Waterfalls, koi ponds, maples, peacocks and the odd friendly squirrels.
4. Gorgeous year-round. Whether it’s spring blossoms, autumn leaves, or crisp winter mornings, the garden always delivers. My guide to proposing in different seasons.
5. Easy to plan around. No tickets, no big crowds to time around; just show up and enjoy it.

R&E's Kyoto Garden Proposal Story
We planned for early in the morning, while the park was still empty and the light was soft. Kyoto Garden has this calm, tucked-away feel to it with the pond, waterfalls, and all that greenery, it doesn’t feel like you’re in the middle of London.
I’d recommended the spot on a little bridge in front of the waterfall. When Robin got down on one knee and opened the box to reveal Eugenie’s blue engagement ring, her reaction was beautiful.
Shortly after I joined them, a couple of squirrels got a little too friendly and climbed up their legs. It actually made the moment even more relaxed and special.
For their engagement photos, we wandered through Holland Park. The tulips in the Dutch Garden were in full bloom and looked incredible (visit in April and May for the tulips). We wrapped things up by the giant chessboard, which was a fun little nod to something they both enjoy.

Final Thoughts
If you’re after a low-key but beautiful place full of nature to propose in London, the Kyoto Garden is worth a look. It’s quiet, personal, and has plenty of space nearby for relaxed photos after the big moment.
