Reflecting back on an incredible 2018 full of awesome weddings, travel adventures, new experiences and loads of photo related shenanigans.

Time seems to fly by so fast these days. So fast that I’ve found memories risk appearing like a fuzzy dream.

So it’s nice to take some time, while sipping mulled wine, to reflect back on all the adventures of 2018 and digest so many incredible experiences that I feel truly privileged to have been a part of.

Photography 25 Awesome Wedding Couples

To all my couples who invited me to join in with their incredible celebrations and capture all their friends and family just being awesome at life, thank you. Thank you for trusting me with your wedding photos and making me feeling like one of the gang.

And thank you so much for letting me live this brilliant crazy ride. It’s so cool being able to make a living out of something I love while capturing so many fantastic characters.

Celebrating Diversity

One of my favourite things about the weddings I get to photograph is the incredibly diverse range. From urban to rural, from luxurious to alternative, from local to the other side of the world. Seeing my couples embracing their characters and personalities in their wedding celebrations has been so much fun.

This year I’ve photographed same sex couples and couples from dozens of different cultures. I’ve always loved exploring different cultures (often on travels during uni holidays) and a wedding is such a great place to do this – clothes, rituals, music, dance, food etc

Seeing love in all its beautiful forms really is a privilege.

Photo Adventures Overseas

A passion I share with many of my couples is that of travel. A chance to explore and discover new places and people that open your mind up to different perspectives. There’s so many fascinating stories out there to discover. In today’s age of cheap air travel it’s never been easier to experience them – something I feel our generation is incredibly lucky for.

This year I’ve enjoyed trips to Cuba, Croatia, Italy, Spain, Romania, Morocco and Colombia for a mix of weddings, conferences (big shout to Laura, Mike, Huy and the Nine Dot guys who put so much hard work into these fantastic events) and Street Photography.

Public Speaking, Workshops and Jelly Bean

An area that I’ve really pushed myself outside of my comfort zone this year has been public speaking.

Public speaking has always been one of my greatest fears. Memories of standing in front of the class at school, sweaty palms and an annoying ability to go red as a tomato still haunt me.

This year I took steps to overcome this fear by giving a presentation to a room full of photographers at Snap Festival, running a workshop and hosting a conference for the wedding community called Jelly Bean.

A Personal Highlight

And finally, and most importantly, at the beginning of the year I started a relationship with the most incredible girl I’ve ever met. Her beauty, delightful weirdness and ability to care for others has me questioning on a daily basis how I could ever get so lucky. This year’s highlights and adventures would not have been the same without her.

Last week we celebrated our 1 year anniversary and although it may seem early days, I can say with confidence that I will marry this girl one day and for the first time ever I’m excited about the prospect of being the other side of the camera.

Here’s to love in all it’s beautiful forms.

What Does 2019 Hold For Matt Badenoch Photography?

The year hasn’t even begun and yet there’s already so much to be excited for in 2019. I’ve booked my highest number of destination weddings yet, which will be taking me to Africa, Central and North America and across Europe. Plus I have several really exciting weddings in London and around the UK.

There’s some exciting Street Photography trips booked in for Ethiopia and Nepal (a country I’ve been longing to return to for the past decade).

I’ve still got a few spaces left for weddings in 2019, so if you’re getting married or know someone who is and would love this kind of photography, I’d love to hear from you!

Merry Christmas all and a Happy New year!
